The fine print, up front
Behind every lesson is work you don't see — planning, custom assignments, homework checks, and grading, all built around one child. These rules protect that quality, and we'd rather you know them before you ever pay for an hour.
Education is fully private and one-on-one. Your assistant builds the lessons, assignments, homework checks, and grading around one student — teaching a second child would mean double that preparation, so each contract covers one.
A real lesson has two halves: usually an hour of teaching, then an hour of practice where your child works with what they've just learned. Teacher first, then child. One hour isn't enough for both — so every appointment is 2 hours or more, across all of our services.
The work your child does between sessions gets checked, corrected, and returned at no charge, on your assistant's own time — it's part of how the lessons stick, not an add-on.
Teaching two students is close to double the work — separate lessons, separate marking. Your assistant decides whether to take a second child on, and sets that fee themselves; most land around $30 per hour, same 2-hour minimum. Private Mentorship takes no share of it. They may teach them together or as two separate classes.
We'll ask your assistant on your behalf. Most take it case by case — and the standard is private one-on-one, where each child gets their own dedicated time.
The sibling rate is for genuine siblings, so we may ask for ID to confirm the two children share a last name.
Hours can't be shared with friends or extended family — every student needs their own contract (1 or 2 months, with a 24 or 40-hour package).
And yes — friends are welcome. If two families each have their own contract and the assistant agrees, their kids can take the class together with the assistant, in person or online. Many kids love learning alongside a friend; some families pair their own children up, and most still choose private one-on-one.
These aren't hidden terms — they're how we protect the quality of every single lesson. You'll see everything again, in writing, before you commit to anything.
Common Questions
Private Mentorship is built around reserved weekly hours with one consistent assistant — the same trusted person for the family, every week. It isn’t a by-the-session or pay-as-you-go service. That consistency is the point: trust between an assistant, a child, and their parents grows over time, and real progress — routines, learning, confidence — comes from a steady relationship rather than scattered sessions. It’s a long-term partnership built around a family’s long-term goals, not a quick fix. Flexibility still lives within that commitment: sessions can be rescheduled, plans adjusted, and contracts frozen when a family needs a longer break.
Yes. A freeze — pausing sessions for a stretch of time — covers medical situations, summer or winter breaks, a move, or any season when a family needs to step away. The hours are never removed; a freeze simply holds them in a banked balance until sessions resume. Freezes are arranged with advance notice — the family lets their assistant know when they’re stepping away and roughly when they’ll return, so it can be planned around. Most families freeze for about two to three weeks, often around holidays or travel, and pick right back up. A few things to be clear on: a freeze protects the hours, not the exact weekly spot — for longer breaks of several months, the assistant may take on another family in that time, so the standing weekly position may not be waiting on return. The hours themselves are never lost — they stay in the banked balance. Like all paid hours, they’re non-refundable; banked hours are time still held with Private Mentorship, not a refund. Whenever the assistant has availability, they’ll do their best to open space so the remaining hours can be used as sessions resume.
One person. Everything else.
Every assistant covers Education, Life Skills, Childcare and Personal Support — you never pick just one, and there’s no extra fee per area. Each family draws on the mix they actually need.
