2023 It started with one family.

We've grown by referral ever since — one family recommending us to their family and friends. We rarely need to advertise.

Years Waiting lists are everywhere.

Daycares across Canada are full, and placements can take years. Every application, approved or not, receives a response.

We review every application on the list and select the families and assistants we know we can serve well.

Why a waiting list?

The waiting list is how we find families and assistants who are a good fit for Private Mentorship. The official application is detailed — so rather than asking everyone to share personal information up front, we only send it to the people we can move forward with. It keeps your private details private.

Who needs support

Most families use their hours for one main person — especially for Education and Life Skills. Personal Support and Childcare often stretch across the household. Tell us the main person and we'll build everything around them.

What kind of help

Choose one, a few, or all — most families use more than one. Education and Life Skills are the bulk of most contracts; childcare and a lift where it makes sense happen alongside them, never on their own.

How Private Education works
  • Fully private, one-on-one. Each contract covers one student — the lessons, assignments, homework checks, and grading are all built around that one child.
  • Every session is 2 hours minimum. A real lesson has two halves — usually an hour of teaching, then an hour where your child practises and works with what they've just learned. Teacher first, then child. One hour isn't enough for both — and every session, in any service, is 2 hours minimum.
  • Homework corrections are always free — work sent between sessions gets checked and corrected on your assistant's own time, at no charge.
  • Adding a second child: teaching two students means double the behind-the-scenes work — separate lessons, assignments, and homework checks. Your assistant decides whether to take a second child on, and sets that fee themselves — most land around $30/hour, same 2-hour minimum. Private Mentorship takes no share of it. We'll ask on your behalf; most assistants take it case by case, and the standard is private one-on-one. The sibling rate is for genuine siblings, so we may ask for ID to confirm the two children share a last name.
  • Friends can study together. Hours can't be shared across families — every student needs their own contract. But if two families each have their own contract and the assistant agrees, their kids can take the class together, in person or online. Many kids love learning alongside a friend; most families still choose fully private one-on-one.

Good to know

Two things we'd rather be upfront about now than surprise you with later.

During our initial public launch period, registration fees don't apply. Later, as Private Mentorship grows, new clients may require a one-time registration fee to get started — paid once, ever. Never monthly, never renewed, never repeated.

Why would there ever be a fee? Fair question — a few honest reasons:

  • A head start on the relationship. Part of it goes right back into your family — your assistant can use it to take your child or adult out in the first weeks. Early experiences together are the fastest way trust gets built.
  • The work before day one. Hand-matching is real work — reviewing your application, the intro meeting, and building your family's plan before the first session ever starts.
  • Your reserved weekly spot. Our assistants keep small rosters, and your weekly time blocks are held for your family alone — the fee helps protect that dedicated space.
  • It keeps the list serious. A one-time commitment means spots go to families who genuinely want them.

If you join during this period, none of this applies to you — ever. There are no additional fees after you start, and you will never be asked to pay a registration fee.

Not every family uses outings. Plenty of Private Mentorship happens at home and in the neighbourhood — this only applies when going out is part of your plan.

Our days are built around the community — and most of it is free. Sports on the field, parks, walks, hikes, libraries, community events — we initiate these all the time, and a great week often costs nothing. Paid experiences are usually something the family or client asks for. Private Mentorship is activity-driven, not financially driven.

When something has an admission cost, the family covers it. Think entry fees — a fair, a movie theatre, a gym membership, a cooking class. At the fair, you'd cover your child's rides and snacks; and if the assistant needs a ticket to come in and take part, the family covers that too. It's admission only — never the assistant's food, drinks, clothing, or personal spending.

Reimbursement is built into the contract. Some families leave money on the table before they head out, some e-transfer it, and some have the assistant pay and reimburse them after — whatever you arrange together works. For anyone under 18, the assistant always checks with a parent first.

And our assistants are generous by nature. They're the kind of people who'll happily treat their client to a snack or a small gift now and then without asking anything back. Every family is different — some want regular outings, some need a gym for health reasons, and many weeks are simply free community time.
